The VC Bird International Airport comfortably
accommodates the largest aircraft. Amongst the many international airlines
that operate regular flights are British Airways, British West Indies
Airways (BW1A), Air Canada, America Airlines, Condor and the Leeward
Islands Air Transport (LIAT).
Geographical location makes access to the islands relatively
speedy. Flying times are 2 and a half hours from Miami, 3 and a
half hours from New York, 4 and a half hours from Toronto and 8
hours from London. Located between the markets of North and South
America, Antigua's port provides a sea link from Canada, the United
States, Europe and the Far East. The container handling
facilities at the port are modern and efficient, handling roll
on, roll off and lift on, lift off cargo. Several major shipping
lines call at the port providing world wide services. Antigua and
Barbuda has an excellent telecommunications service.
The British
company, Cable and Wireless, provides international direct dialling
telephone service, as well as telex, facsimile and data service
(including electronic mail and international database to Europe,
North America and other parts of the Caribbean). |
